When one is born under the name Mike Check (check his ID, it’s true), you tend to have a certain expectation. Besides following his name with the numbers 1 and 2 repeated twice in succession, you probably expect some sort of musicality, probably in the rap genre. In this case, you’re right. Plus, you should expect more than just musicality, you can expect GOOD music.
Picking up the drum sticks at the early age of 7 he would quickly learn about life with rhythm. This clangin’ on the drums as a youngin, Check was drawn to the hip-hop sound the one to which his heart currently beats.
After substituting the drumstick with a pen, Check crafted himself into a powerful lyricist with uncanny wordplay and emotion inducing topics. His solo debut mixtape “Check Me Out,” gained amazing notoriety within the New York City Tri-State Area, and his outside the box performances chock full of explosive energy have been known to wow crowds.
Mike Check’s buzz was intensified after show stopping performances at Def Jam’s Unsigned Hype at the Sugar Bar in Manhattan, The Downtown Club in Farmingdale, and DJ Cadet’s parties at Club Rhone in Manhattan. Check’s mixtape debut appearance on DJ Storm’s Heatseekers, solidified his buzz on the streets and catapulted him into a list of up and coming artists on the East Coast.
However, as with everything, the proof is in the pudding. So, take a trip right here to take a listen for yourself AND if you are the type who says seeing is believing, check his live performance with Lenny Kravitz’s band on Wednesday, July 28th at Crash Mansion (199 Bowery, nyc).
